2020 * 2021 * 2022 * 2023 * 2024 * 2025 * Music Exchange Guidelines

Our 2024 Exchange is coming soon. Here’s the tentative playlist:
01: January: Vasectomy Party / Hal Harmon
Working as an artist for over 10 years now, Vasectomy Party offers wonderful experimental jams for you to enjoy. This year, we got another 3″ disc, with loops and sounds that create wonderful tapestries, that unfold for you in three tracks, that wander and sprawl across this release. A great first volley!
02: February: ꉓꍟꂦ꒒ꎇꃅꂦꀤꋪꍟꍏꈤꈤ ꌗꃅꀤꍏꈤꌗꍏꉓꃅ ꀸꀎꀤꈤꍟ ꍏꂵꃅáꀤꈤ – Library Music.
This nearly 39 minute piece is accompanied by no information, and only has slightly moreso included with the e-mail that was sent to our group with the disc. Though this shouldn’t be discouraging, as this is actually an extending piece of music that evolves and changes.
03: March: TanukiSpiderCat – Derealizations
This mixture of cello, synths and samples is a fantastic March release for our group, with six new tracks from the always impressive TanukiSpiderCat. I find their releases and music to be incredibly transportive, and evokes feelings of travel and exploration in ways that I truly appreciate.
04: April: Don Haugen
(https://www.discogs.com/artist/784681-Don-Haugen)
A member of our group way back at the beginning, Don has been making experimental music for years, and his work is wonderfully hypnotic and beautiful, which is exactly what we need more of. This collection of recent jams is the antidote to this election cycle, for sure.
05: May: univac
Artist, creator, maker, bender, broadcaster, and bon vivant, univac has been working with and making music for ages, and in that 30 years, has performed with and participated in some of the most incredible artists working in experimental music. I’m not only lucky enough to call him friend and writing partner, and a great addition to this group. This year, he created a VHS tape full of music videos of his work! Now I need to track down another VCR! Hopefully ya’ll are enjoying this show without me, for now…
06: June: Mini-Mutations – A Firesign Nordine
Electronic music meets a glitching sense of humor meets collage and cut-ups, in this project by Austin Rich. This disc includes a long-form composition that is equal parts tribute to wordsmiths Ken Nordine and Firesign Theater, with a touch of the Mini-Mutations sense of production.
07: July: Jocko Homomorphism – I Of Discernment
(jocko-homomorphism.bandcamp.com)
This project has been a staple of this group since the beginning, and their yearly releases are a great way to help mark the passage of time. This one is one exception: 17 new tunes, a full and fun new album! Electronic jams for the modern age.
08: August: Regional Processing Facility – Desert Horse
While they are new to our group as of last year, this artist has been recording and making music since the early 90’s, and is dedicated to the art and craft of recording. This year, they offered an incredibly brief and beautifully packaged disc of new material, and it is not only in keeping with their last release, but sounds just as good, too. They such are a great addition to what we do, and I look forward to seeing what they do next, every time!
09: September: Le Petit Sac
Always hilarious, always confrontational, and lately, very very seasonal, Le Petit Sac has been a creative force in experimental performance and recording for going on 20 years now, and it is an honor to have them in the group, since the beginning, even! This cdr is another installment of their blasts of noise, and it’s very much a treat for the ears.
10: October: My Burning Bush – “sleepless”
They have been in our group since the beginning, and My Burning Bush always delivers when it comes to weirdness, and drones. Usually they send out CDs, so this is a new take on the My Burning Bush format. Regardless, this has a number of different explorations all on one tape, and the tunes even flow in a way that really works well.
11: November: Brief Being
New Group! I don’t think they even have played that much, and they don’t have many recordings yet. But this one is excellent! Each tape contains only a small slice of a longer performance by Brief Being, and the original full recording no longer exists. There is some video that you can watch, but really, this artifact of a recording session is truly something special. A wonderful addition to the group this year.
11: November Bonus: Dylan Houser – “sally”
Noise artist Dylan Houser goes out of his way for our group this year by sending out a 45, and it sounds great! Dylan has been a force from down south for quite some time, and this new record is a great link between their old and new style. I do hope this is available to get outside of this group, because it is well worth checking out.
12: December: Aversion To Reality – ECTOBRA!N
Another long-timer in our group, and who always delivers incredible work. This project has been fun to follow, and always delivers something unique. This time we are treated to an over-30-minute-long jam,
that changes and evolves as the piece goes on. A nice December treat that we will all enjoy!
