Cathead

19 April 2013: (East End, Portland, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead, /root_DIR, Guyve, Thrust, The Nervous. This is / was the “20th Anniversary Contractual Obligation” Show, where the “final” line-up of Cathead (the one that played the most shows) re-united to fumble through their strange antics one last time. And, for the first time, in Portland.

20 September 1996: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Virgin Mary Abortions, Conkrit & Cathead. The members of all three of these bands were pretty tight-knit in those days, and it seemed in my mind that most of our shows included these three acts.

1 March 1996: (Shady Acres, Medford, OR. 7 PM)

ellamenopee, Implosion, A.O.D., Backstabb, Cathead. On of our rare, out-of-town shows. We were famously hated at this show, where a fight nearly broke out between Colin and the audience during the show. For a while we weren’t sure if we should leave or not, but soon one of the locals informed us that, “They treat all out-of-towners that way.” We did not attend the after party, but drove home instead.

? ? 1996: (John Henry’s, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead. This was the one time we played to a larger crowd with the “kiisu – Austin – Dogfish – Scratchy” line-up.

15 December 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Virgin Mary Abortions, Wrist Rockets, Cathead, Conkrit, ACRONYM. Somehow, the date on the flier is not right. How this happened, exactly, I can’t remember, but most of the documents I can find confirm it was actually the 15th.

3 November 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Conkrit & Cathead. I believe, originally, this was supposed to be our big break, playing with Oswald 5-0. However, they had to cancel in the end. In the interim, we had met the kids in Conkrit, who became close friends, and performed a number of shows with us. Virgin Mary Abortions might have also been on this bill, as they often were.

13 October 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Valerian, Cathead. If memory serves, there WERE other bands on this bill, but there was not time to get them on the flier. Valerian was a decidedly “ska” band, where we were just acid-damaged weirdos that sort of played punk. This show was sort of a mess, in a good way.

30 September 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

The Spoils, The Goodie Goodies, Social Aggression, Cathead. While advertised as such, this show was not the last punk show at Icky’s. Dramatic boasts were a hallmark of fliers for shows at Icky’s, and we were added to the bill at the last minute, mostly because we had been pestering them for a show. If I remember correctly, we had almost completely forgot about this show, as we’d taken acid the night before, and only remembered a few hours before the show that we were supposed to play.

25 August 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Holy Rodent, Confused by Tools, Cathead.

23 August 1995: (John Henry’s, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead, Melt.

* * * * * *

12 June 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead.

11 May 1996: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Feeling OK, Cathead. While booked for the show, DuckFuzz never showed up. Their “set” was that they were at home, drinking, while the show went on. A little too conceptual for us; we slagging DuckFuzz the entire show.

15 April 1995: (The Monkeyhouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Derailer, Buzzwurm, Cathead. We had become fairly well known for throwing things at the audience, before they had a chance to throw things at us. Colin famously hit Austin’s girlfriend with dried beans, who left. The folks at The Monkeyhouse refused to book us again after that.

25 February 1995:
(Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead. At this show we had a mutual friend perform a solo acoustic set before we played. He was so well received, and we were not, that we took the stage to a massive crowd, who then dwindled as we played. In this era, Cathead was as much an industrial band as we were punk, and we varied from song to song.

1 February 1995: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Dogfish & Cathead. Dogfish was a solo act who showed up late to the show. He wound up being our drummer.

31 December 1994: (House Party, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead. We were all attending a house party at the house next down to The Monkeyhouse. They were having a show, so Cathead decided to play to the people at our party.

17 December 1994: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead. Again, there were no other acts on the bill, but if I recall, Cathead did two sets, that were almost over an hour in length. If one goes by the raw recordings. At several points, the audience took over and started singing at us.

23 November 1994: (Icky’s Teahouse, Eugene, OR. 8 PM)

Cathead. There were no other acts at the show, save our friends from the audience occasionally breaking into song, taking over the show. This show was notorious, as we spread peanut butter on the audience, and they were not happy.
