It’s Negativland November this month on Mid-Valley Mutations, and we’re very excited to have both The Weatherman and Mark Hosler talking on the program! Instrumental in the existence of this show, and a key figure in the experimental music scene. Tune in November 10th and 24th for excellent interviews. Only on Mid-Valley Mutations.
When the crypt goes creak,
And the tombstones quake.
Spooks come out for a swinging wake.
Happy haunts materialize,
And begin to vocalize.
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize.
Now don’t close your eyes,
And don’t try to hide.
Or a silly spook may sit by your side.
Shrouded in a daft disguise,
They pretend to terrorize.
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize.
As the moon climbs high o’er the dead oak tree,
Spooks arrive for the midnight spree.
Creepy creeps with eerie eyes,
Start to shriek and harmonize.
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize.
When you hear the knell of a requiem bell,
Weird glows gleam where spirits dwell.
Restless bones etherialize,
Rise as spooks of every size.
If you would like to join our jamboree,
There’s a simple rule that’s compulsory. Mortals pay a token fee.
Rest in peace, the haunting’s free.
So hurry back, we would like your company.

Our final Ghost Stories Show is this Friday, and we already have a number of calls already scheduled. If you want to guarantee that you get on the air, please contact me soon! No call will go unanswered, but we may have to make one or two of them Podcast only. Do you have a supernatural or paranormal experience that you want to talk about on the radio? This is your chance!

This is a goofy, often funny and overly-dramatic war film that uses a cookie-cutter plot where a newspaper man tries to take down an organization, and almost pays the ultimate price. The twist: the organization is the Nazi Party, and the newspaper man is an American working in Germany. It’s weird to see so many swastikas and fake accents, but on the whole it’s a lot of fun. And, strangely relevant given the current political climate.

When this show came on TV in the Fall of 1986, I was hooked. A huge fan of the movie from a couple years earlier, I was initially annoyed that Jeff Bridges wasn’t on. But by the time it finished it’s run in the Spring of 1987 this show was what I remembered the most. Strangely, my own parents divorce (and the life-stuff of that era) caused me to forgot it entirely as I discovered girls, and as new & shiner things occupied my attention. I was reminded of this show again when I went down a John Carpenter Rabbit Hole, and suddenly, I was 11 again, watching TV obsessively, living out some Science Fiction story in my own head, where I was the child of an alien, and the problems of everyday life seemed to drop away by comparison.

While it hasn’t happened yet, I want to get on the Fred Cole love fest, and say that the several Dead Moon shows I got to see back in the day meant the world to me. I’m so sorry the Cole family has to go through this, and Toody in particular, who must be the strongest partner around to be able to keep a sane head while this is happening. Dead Moon means the world to me, and it’s certainly going to be a less groovy world in the future. But right now: let’s celebrate so loud Fred can’t help be hear how much we love him. Dead Moon Forever!

Friends: I need to replace the bicycle that was stolen, as I need something a little faster than walking to help with chores and errands. Do you have a beater-bike you don’t want anymore, or would part with for little cash? Let’s see if I can put some wheels under me before the weather completely turns. Thanks.

In my mind, this was a lot further away… but it’s this weekend! Noise Therapy, with Justin Smith, Herd William, devils/club, Talc & Rock Forming Minerals. I’ll be doing a shortened, live version of my radio show, Mid-Valley Mutations, with a crew of great experimental artists. And we’re playing at an art gallery, too. Come on down. You won’t be sorry.

I tried to take a ton of photos from NorCal NoiseFest this year, and made animated gifs of most of the acts that I got to see. (Not all, but most everyone.) I also have the complete photosets that the gifs were made from, if anyone would like to see those. Please feel free to share, add anything else relevant, and help me identify the performers. There’s some pretty fun ones in here, and it reminds me of how great the weekend was.

Typos be damned! There’s a new issue of The Cherry Picker available now, and I’ll be making deliveries later if anyone would like a physical copy. In this issue: Some Kind of Nightmare, a run-down of the Salem Podcast Symposium and the first Nebulae Goth / Industrial night, and ruminations on the changing seasons. Enjoy!
